Baby Girl’s ‘Micropenis’ Was Hormone Exposure from Dad’s Testosterone Gel

A Swedish infant girl developed what looked like a ‘micropenis’ after frequent skin contact with her father, who used testosterone gel. The hormone caused her clitoris to grow and her labia to fuse, mimicking male genital features.

Doctors found her blood had abnormally high testosterone levels. After stopping exposure, her genitalia returned to normal size. Pediatric endocrinologist Professor Jovanna Dahlgren advises parents to be cautious with hormone products around kids.

Experts stress that ‘micropenis’ is a term for a small penis in males and should not be used to describe female genital changes caused by external hormones.

According to Stanford Medicine, micropenis occurs in boys when the penis is under 0.75 inches at birth and may need medical treatment.

This case serves as a reminder to handle hormone medications carefully to avoid accidental exposure.
