A flight from Cancun to London was forced to divert after two passengers broke the no-smoking rule by lighting up in the airplane restrooms. The captain warned the passengers that continued smoking would result in diversion, but the behavior didn’t stop.
The flight landed at Bangor International Airport in Maine late on July 8, and the smokers were removed. However, the original crew had reached their legal work limits and couldn’t continue the journey.
Passengers were kept waiting in a military airport facility for over 15 hours as the airline arranged a new crew. A replacement flight left the following afternoon, finally bringing everyone safely home.
Though the passengers reached their destination, the long delay and uncomfortable conditions made it a difficult travel experience.
