At 77, Sharon Lane, a retired high school language teacher, has left her home in California to live full-time on the Villa Vie Odyssey cruise ship. She says this new lifestyle is not only exciting but also less expensive than living on land.
Sharon’s family supports her choice, and she made the decision quickly. She bought an interior villa on the ship, which costs around $130,000, with monthly fees of about $3,000 covering all meals, drinks, housekeeping, laundry, WiFi, and entertainment.
She told NBC Los Angeles that she no longer has to worry about chores and enjoys a life focused on fun activities. “Cross off everything that isn’t fun, and that’s the life we have now,” she said.
Speaking to CNN Travel, Sharon said she’s thrilled to live the life she dreamed of—owning her cabin and sailing indefinitely.
With housing costs rising on land, this cruise ship lifestyle may become an appealing option for many retirees.
