FDA Recalls Cucumbers in Texas Over Potentially Deadly Salmonella

The FDA has announced a serious recall of cucumbers from Fuentes Farms, sold at flea markets in McAllen and Alamo, Texas, after tests showed possible contamination with Salmonella, a bacteria that can cause severe illness and death.

Symptoms of Salmonella include diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain. In rare cases, the infection can become life-threatening if the bacteria enter the bloodstream, especially for vulnerable groups like young children and the elderly.

The cucumbers were sold between May 31 and June 3. The FDA warns that the bacteria could spread if the cucumbers are handled without proper hygiene. Consumers who bought cucumbers from Lot #357 should dispose of them or return them immediately.

No illnesses have been reported so far, but the FDA’s Class I recall means the cucumbers have been pulled from shelves and consumers should avoid eating them.
