Father Shares Daughter’s Last Words Before Texas Flood Tragedy

A Texas father has shared the heartbreaking final message from his daughter before she was swept away in devastating floods that have killed over 100 people. Rescue teams continue searching for more than 160 missing individuals after heavy rains caused the Guadalupe River to rise dangerously.

Joyce Catherine Badon, 21, was with college friends near the river when the floods hit. She sent her father a short, chilling text: “We’re being washed away,” before losing contact.

Volunteer search leader Louis Deppe recounted the message to the press. Joyce’s mother, Kellye Badon, posted on Facebook after Joyce’s body was recovered, thanking supporters and hoping for the safe return of her daughter’s friends, Ella Cahill, Aidan Heartfield, and Reese Manchaca.

Ty Badon explained that the friends were staying at a house owned by Aidan’s father. Aidan’s final phone call to his dad was to help his friends, but the call ended suddenly as the floodwaters surged.

Some blame has been placed on the National Weather Service for failing to provide adequate warnings due to staffing cuts. The White House press secretary defended the agency’s efforts, rejecting claims that political leadership was at fault.

This tragic event highlights the devastating consequences of natural disasters and the pain of families awaiting news of loved ones.
