Messy moments are part of parenting, especially when your little ones have nighttime accidents that stain the mattress. Even with protectors, moisture can seep through, leaving stains and odors that are hard to get rid of.
Katelyn Fagan, a mother of four and blogger at What’s Up Fagans, shared her tried-and-true method for cleaning urine stains. Although her daughter had been potty trained for over a year, bedwetting still happened, and the mattress protector didn’t fully protect the mattress.
Katelyn’s homemade cleaner uses simple ingredients: hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dish soap, and optional lavender oil. She mixed 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a drop of dish soap in a spray bottle, adding lavender oil for a nice scent. She swirled gently to avoid foaming.
She sprayed the solution generously on the stained areas, allowing it to soak in and break down the urine. After the mattress dried, she vacuumed the leftover baking soda. The mattress looked and smelled much fresher, with stains reduced or gone.
This easy, safe, and affordable method is great for parents wanting to keep their child’s mattress clean and fresh without harsh chemicals or professional cleaning.
