My world was turned upside down when I stumbled upon a mysterious email on my husband’s iPad. The message, addressed to him by name, was about a routine maintenance issue at an apartment complex I’d never heard of. What caught my attention was that we own our home and haven’t rented in years. The email seemed out of place, and my curiosity was piqued.
When I confronted my husband, he brushed it off as a mistake, claiming the apartment complex must have gotten his email wrong. But the more I thought about it, the more I felt something was off. I couldn’t shake the feeling that he was hiding something.
I confided in my best friend, and together, we decided to investigate further. She posed as a delivery driver and managed to get the apartment number. When we arrived at the complex, we were met with a shocking sight: a young woman answered the door, and two small children ran up to her, calling out to someone inside. We heard multiple women talking in the background.
The woman’s frightened expression and the abrupt closure of the door left me stunned. As we left the building, I saw the women and children watching us from the window before quickly closing the curtains. My friend and I exchanged worried glances, both of us reeling from what we’d just witnessed.
We drove to confront my husband, who was visiting his family upstate. When we arrived, he met me with a worried look on his face. I demanded answers, and he finally confessed to living a double life. He had multiple relationships and children with other women, and he had been using company funds to support them.
I felt betrayed and heartbroken. The man I thought I knew was a stranger to me. I realized I had to protect our children and myself. I packed up our son, and we left. I filed for divorce and full custody of our children, determined to start anew and heal from the wounds of his deception.
