A Night of Chaos and Love

It was supposed to be a perfect anniversary dinner – just my boyfriend Blake, our 4-year-old son Liam, and I, celebrating one year together. My parents were babysitting Liam, giving us some much-needed alone time. The restaurant was cozy, with flickering candles and soft music filling the air. I wore my favorite red dress, the one Blake said made me look magical.

But from the start, Blake seemed distracted. He kept glancing around, his leg bouncing under the table. I asked him if everything was okay, but he brushed it off, saying he was fine. The waiter came to take our order, and Blake asked about security cameras outside and if the outdoor area was booked for an event. His questions seemed odd, but I didn’t think much of it.

That was until he suddenly jumped out of his seat, knocking over his chair, and screamed, “He did it again!” I was shocked, unsure what was happening. That’s when I saw Liam’s toy car floating in the pool. A terrible memory flashed back – a year ago, Blake had saved Liam from drowning in a pool at a friend’s barbecue. Now, history was repeating itself.

Panic set in as I rushed toward the pool, but Blake was already there. He dove in, fully clothed, and pulled Liam to safety. I was relieved but shaken. Blake handed Liam to me, and I clutched him tightly, tears streaming down my face. My parents rushed over, worried and apologetic.

But Blake didn’t stop there. He dove into the pool again, and again, until he finally emerged with something shiny in his hand. He got down on one knee, revealing a sparkling ring, and proposed to me. The world around us melted away as he said, “I love you, and I love Liam. You’re my family. Will you marry me?”

I was overwhelmed, but my answer was immediate. “Yes!” The restaurant erupted in cheers, and my mom cried happy tears. Liam clapped, grinning, and said, “Mama’s happy!”

As we left the restaurant, my mom apologized for not keeping a closer eye on Liam. I reassured her that everything was okay, thanks to Blake. My dad thanked Blake, saying he owed him a drink – or ten. Blake just smiled and laughed it off.

Driving home, I couldn’t stop looking at Blake. He was my hero, Liam’s superhero, and the man who had given me a new kind of forever. The ring on my finger sparkled, but it was Blake’s love and devotion that truly shone bright.
