I never thought I’d catch the eye of Daniel, our department head. He was charming, confident, and always seemed to command attention. So, when he asked me out to dinner, I was taken aback. I accepted the offer, and as I looked around the room at my supportive colleagues, I felt a sense of pride and empowerment. I realized that I had been invisible to Daniel and the others, but not because I wasn’t worthy of attention. It was because they had chosen not to see me.
