Tragedy Strikes: Officer Phylicia Carson Loses Life in Line of Duty

A heartbreaking incident has shaken the Osage Beach Police Department and the community, as Officer Phylicia Carson, a devoted mother of six and dedicated law enforcement officer, tragically lost her life during a high-speed pursuit. The 33-year-old officer was on duty in the early hours of Sunday when the devastating event occurred.

The pursuit began when Officer Carson spotted a speeding vehicle on a rural road near the Lake of the Ozarks. With her emergency lights activated, she gave chase, determined to uphold law and order. However, the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, chose to flee, leading to a tragic series of events.

As Officer Carson’s patrol car careened off the road and collided with a tree, the vehicle burst into flames, tragically claiming her life. The suspect continued to evade law enforcement but eventually crashed and was apprehended. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.

Officer Carson’s untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the Osage Beach Police Department, where she had served since June 2023. Her fellow officers, friends, and family are reeling from the loss, leaving behind her loving husband, Grant Carson, and their six children to navigate the difficult days ahead.

This tragic incident marks the first on-duty loss for the Osage Beach Police Department in 30 years, deeply impacting the community and the entire police department. Chief Todd Davis urged everyone to keep the Carson family, the department, and the community in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe shared a heartfelt tribute, extending condolences to Officer Carson’s family and fellow officers. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of remembering Officer Phylicia Carson’s sacrifice and supporting those who continue to serve and protect.

The suspect has been charged with multiple offenses, including resisting arrest and the death of a police officer. He remains held in Camden County Jail without bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
