Kathie Lee Gifford, the beloved television personality, recently shared with PEOPLE that she was hospitalized after a painful fall while recovering from hip replacement surgery. The 70-year-old former Today co-host suffered a fractured pelvis in two places and spent over a week in the hospital undergoing physical therapy.

Gifford reflects on the incident, saying that she had weakened her body by moving 300 books by herself during a book signing event in Nashville. The next day, she tripped while hurrying to the door and fell, fracturing her pelvis. Gifford describes the experience as “humbling” and acknowledges that she needs to slow down and listen to her body.

The historical nonfiction book explores the story of Herod and Mary, providing insight into the ancient world and the events that shaped the life of Jesus.

Gifford’s inspiration for the book came during a rabbinical trip to Israel, where she felt compelled to share the stories of the Bible with others. Her son, Cody, encouraged her to write the book, saying that people need hope. Gifford’s goal is to be useful, kind, and loving to others, and to represent the kingdom of God through her work.
