Flight Diverts After Passenger Mistakes Text for Threat

Shortly after departing San Juan for Dallas, an American Airlines flight made an emergency landing when a passenger saw the letters “RIP” on another traveler’s phone and reported it as suspicious. The flight was diverted to Puerto Rico for investigation.

Authorities discovered the message was a condolence text related to the recent death of the passenger’s father. The man was en route to Dallas to attend to family matters.

The plane was thoroughly checked by security and the TSA, and the passengers involved were interviewed. With no danger found, the flight resumed and landed safely the next day.

The incident caused a delay of about three and a half hours, during which passengers stayed onboard. Airport officials called it a misunderstanding and confirmed all safety protocols were followed. American Airlines apologized for the delay and emphasized their commitment to passenger safety.
